NEW TO MY WARDROBE

The Event: The Lanes Health and Beauty

Last Thursday evening I took a casual sprint across Brighton to The Lanes Health and Beauty for an evening devoted to nails and lashes. Partially sprinting as I was so excited to get my nails done, and partially sprinting because I was late (no surprises but a mini emergency at work left me with 5 minutes to spare), I digress, nails and lashes... sounds good doesn't it? Well let me reassure you, it was...

The Lanes Health and Beauty Salon sits right across from one of my favourite/no fuss/nothing fancy restaurants, and I'd often watched people having their nails done whilst digging into one almighty bowl of Spaghetti (yum). This is as close as I'd previously come to taking a step inside - so not close at all really. It's also worth noting that I haven't let another person near my nails in seven years so pink champagne and greeting from salon owner; Julie Coats, aside, I was whisked off to the nail bar where I quickly made my nail shaping related preferences very clear - and I was actually listened to! Big deal ladies and gents as the last time I had my nails done I ended up with pointy talons - outside of Halloween that look is just not appreciated.

Julie had helped my pick a polish for my manicure, and I was very impressed by the range of Essies they had in store - including this seasons current newbies. We chose Essies "She's Pampered", appropriate I know, and whilst I over enthusiastically gabbled away to Lisa from JB-PR (seriously love her) the girl behind the bar applied two coats and sealed in the edges of the nail to prevent tip wear and chipping. Its worth noting that, in between mine and Lisa's iPhone selfie session, Julie told me that the best way to achieve a long lasting manicure at home is to make sure you apply your polish onto a dry nail, no soaking and no post-bath manicures, as the nail expands and then shrinks back down - causing the polish to crack and chip. It's also worth re applying your topcoat every few days for the best colour wear and longevity.

Next up, eye lashes. I almost missed out on this as I was too distracted by all the other lovely ladies at the event and everyone has already assumed I'd been taken care of - thank you Maxfactor Falsh Lash Effect! I had the Ardel 107's applied and we were shown the best way to apply eyelashes - think trimming them to the shape of your eye and applying them from above and not straight on. Why? Well apparently lashes always tend to drop  and when applied straight on that's when they tend to look flat - danm you gravity! I haddn't worn falsies in a long time until Thursday, I used to wear natural ones every day as it severely reduced my makeup application time each morning - after this I'm actually feeling inspired to grab some more eyelash glue and get back into it on lazy days!

Whilst I was there I also had a good ol' snoop around the upper floors of the salon (where the facial/tanning/massage magic happens), each room inspired and named after a different Hollywood icon. If you're in the Brighton area and are interested in booking a treatment, you can have a look through everything on their website (click here!). I'm deffinitely going back for another manicure as I can't stop starring at my current one and it's holding up beautifully. I'm also tempted by an all over spray tan - it's spring and still snowing - can you blame me?
