NEW TO MY WARDROBE

The Edit: Scrubs Up

After a long day there's nothing I love more than coming home, taking off all my makeup and giving my face a good old (gentle) scrub. I've always loved scrubs as there are so many different versions from budget to high end and from seriously scrubby to little fairies polishing your face... Yeah, I did just type that, but I'm tired so just go with me here...

First up is one of my all time favourite scrubs, the St. Ives Sensitive Skin Apricot Scrub. This one in particular over any other scrub out of the St. Ives range, why? The ingredients are nicer and softer on the skin. Although most of the scrubs are formulated without parabens, I've noticed some of them still contain sulphates and assumed that applied to all of them. However a few months back I noticed that the sensitive one lurking in the boys bathroom had slightly different ingredients - no SLS. It's much more gentle in comparison to the others and leaves me far less red. I likey a lot! It comes in at around the £4.30 mark so unless you're currently living on beans on toast (don't worry i'm currently on my way there) then this is probably in your budget. If your new to the world of scrubs and want something effective but with slightly kinder ingridients than other budget scrubs - this is your gal!

Next up is slightly more pricey at £12, the Elemis Fresh Skin Glow Exfoliating Face Wash, I've done a review on this already. But this is a really lovely scrub if you're looking for something that is free from nasties and is a little bit more upmarket this is great. The beads are also quite small making them very gentle on the skin, but they still get the job done - it also smells glorious.

The Origins Modern friction is a pricey one that I always feel a little undecided on. It's effects on the skin have been known to out perform other scrubs on occasion, but £30 for a scrub is a massive amount of money - hence why I save my little sample for those days where I'm in need of a heavy duty scrub (think along the lines of being on holiday for two weeks without using a scrub *shudders*). I'm not too sure on how lovely the ingredients are for this one as my sample doesn't have the ingredients list (one of my biggest peeves with Origins samples - how do I find out what's in it dagnabbit!?) but I have heard it contains SLS, so if you're bothered by that then this isn't for you.

Last but not least, the Nude Miracle Mask - say whaaa? A scrub AND a mask?! I know, I love that idea too. You wouldn't think it, but I would say this is the most gentle product of the bunch. It has really weeny little rice beads that exfoliate. You massage these into your skin for one minute and then leave for five. It contains AHA so it's supposed to be super brightening, as I use scrubs quite often I don't notice this too much, but if I were to use just this once every week and a half I would notice a difference. I try not to use AHA products too regularly though as I heard they can thin the skin and such things. This baby's a little pricey as well so although I love it, I save it for special occasions.

Well, who knew I could write about scrubs for so long or over use the term "SLS"?! I'd like to point out that although SLS has been linked to bad things, so has eating too many vegetables, I don't freak out if I use a product that contains parabens and SLS, but I do like to celebrate the absence of them where I can - they're unnecessary fillers after all. Anyway I digress - it's safe to say a love affair with scrubs is well under way - leave your favourites below so I can get some inspiration for my next purchase!

  1. I've been using the St Ives scrub for years, but I have the one in the green packaging (don't remember what property it had, haha). I love using the Origins scrub, though I don't see a difference. I just like how it turns from a paste to a cleanser with water :P I'm trying out Queen Helene's raspberry scrub right now - it doesn't have anything special, but it's a good basic scrub.

  14. I'm so incredibly keen to try any product from NUDE as all I have heard about the brand is positive things :)

The same goes for Origins. I was not aware there was a sensitive version of the St Ives scrub, I have the original it would seem and although I like it I find it does leave my face a little more red than I would like...I'm hunting this down; thank you :)
