NEW TO MY WARDROBE

Skincare: The One I Was Wrong About...

Ever used a product that really didn't work with your skin type and then suddenly did one day? The Ren Ever Calm Cleansing Milk (formerly known as the Hydra Calm Cleansing Milk) is a prime example of skincare products that work significantly better for different skin types. Back in early 2013 when I had much oilier skin, I wrote this off as a cleanser that was breaking me out and was far too thick for my skin. Fast forward to the end of the year and my skin had turned into a dry cracked mess in the space of a month. Gel cleansers and light balms were ditched in favour of much richer consistencies and I decided to give the Ren Cleansing Milk another go.

Since that first trail I've used it almost every single day for the past four months and the results I see after are miles apart from how my skin used to look post use in its more oily days. It melts into the skin and leaves my skin feeling so soft and plump. I massage it into slightly damp skin and then rinse it off using a damp flannel. There's no left over residue or greasy feel anymore, just happy skin. The moral of the story, kids? Don't write a skincare product off for good...

  1. I completely agree with you, the same thing happened to me and a Decléor Micellar water. It did nothing for me to start with, but now I love using it in the mornings :o) Xx

  2. I wasn't bothered about a couple of REN products originally - their day and night creams particularly - but now, I think they're really great! They definitely grow on you :) xx

  3. I've experienced the same with Skin Serums.. It could also be because weather changes, right? The skins need more love from us in the winter. My Best Michelle https://www.bloglovin.com/blog/4084120.

  4. I always find it a bit strange how skin can change from one extreme to the other! But I had the same experience with mine, it was dry all my life and since one year it's more on the oily side and I struggle with breakouts :/

  5. That's interesting. I might go back and try La Roche Posay Effacular Duo again then…everyone adores it but it broke me out and dried my skin so badly…..hmmm.

  13. I feel like I need to switch my skincare up every season because it reacts so differently depending on the weather. I'm like this with makeup too though. Sometimes I think that I really don't like a product, but then I'll rediscover it a few months later and think it's amazing. Love your posts by the way! You're an amazing photographer! :)

  19. This happens to me so often as my skin type changes regularly. I'll try a sample, fall in love with a product, only to write it off a month later as useless for my skin, then I'll revisit it and find it's amazing again! It's such a faff!

  24. Really good to hear this! Skin changes so many times with some many factors in our life and this is why it's a bit crazy to use the same product forever and ever in time while you and your skin are changing :)

Thanks for sharing, I really want to try this and I love REN skincare!

  25. Such a common point! Breakouts can often happen during a period of readjustment but it's a super scary time of not quite knowing whether you've had a skin reaction or whether it's just the product doing its thing as it should!

As a professional skincare company our advice is to remember that you are individual, your skin needs are different from anyone else's so it's important to really look and listen to what your skin is saying day to day. Introduce any new products carefully and one-by-one so you can track changes and any possible reactions easily.
