NEW TO MY WARDROBE

Just Landed: Benefit Big Easy

Over the past year it really does feel like Benefit have pulled themselves into the forefront of my mind - most recently by taking over the space below my office - all very hush hush, giving nothing but the hashtag #Benetease to the public. What cha' got hiding in there huh? But before that we had the drop of the Big Easy BB Cream. When the Big Easy landed on my desk I was a little uneasy about trying it out, given the countless reviews on finish so matte (even the tube states liquid to power) that dry skinned girls should run a mile at the site of. Despite this I persevered and can safely say that reports were slightly off on this one...

Luckily for me the finish isn't fully matte, more of a luminous/semi matte finish, possibly due to a lighter formula. It's a BB cream more than a foundation, but still packs just enough coverage for my everyday liking. Think the Dr Jart BB Cream but with less of the dewy glow. The first time I tried it out I was afraid that it actually had a greasy look to it, but after a few minutes it settles into a lighter coverage version of my most recent base love - the Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage 12-Hour Foundation - which more than explains why I've taken a liking to it. It doesn't sit beautifully over my dryer patches, but it's not the worst liquid formula I've tried - moisturise well ladies.

The TLDR of it? A semi matte finish with a slight luminosity (thumbs up), it won't work the best with flakey patches of skin (thumbs down), overall a good day time base option which exceeded expectations (thumbs up).

Where's the thumbs up emoji when you need one?

  1. It looks amazing on you but I have dry patches and I don't think this is the right one for me.

  3. You look beautiful. Your comment about dry patches has me a bit worried, as my skin has been quite dry as of late, however it's getting back to its normal self, so I might just have to give this a go (thumbs up!) H xx

  5. I can never find a BB cream to match my skin colour :( :( It does look good though, I think I'd prefer a semi matte too

  11. This looks really pretty on your skin, maybe a bit like the Jouer Matte Moisture Tint. Benefit moved below your office!?! I would have already snuck in by now....

  15. Your skin looks amazing! I haven't actually used a Benefit product since my first big make up purchase of the Boing concealer back when I was like 14?.. three shades too dark and never learnt how to apply it properly. (sigh) Maybe I need to give them a try!

  17. On the swatches I've seen from other bloggers, it looks far too yellow for me but it looks so nice on your skin! Maybe it doesn't translate so yellow after all

  19. I heard it'd be awful on dry skin, which I have, so I don't know... I know now it'd be really awful since surgery antibiotics are giving me loads of flakes, but when my skin gets back to "normal" dry.. I don't know.

  20. This looks great on you! I totally agree about the finish, as an oily-skinned gal I appreciate that it does have more of a matte finish but it doesn't look flat, as there is a teeny bit of luminosity there. It's a great base, and one that I've been reaching for endlessly!

  25. I ended up buying this the other day purely by chance, went in for the oxygen wow foundation but thought I'd give this a go. I normally like a dewy finish but the flawless finish of this has me sold - I could be turning into a matte kinda girl :)

  32. I swatched some of this today at the counter and absolutely fell in love with it. It disappeared into my skin with no effort which is amazing as I always struggle to find the right shade for me! Will definitely be picking up a tube sometime soon :) lovely post xx

  33. I do agree with everything you said about the product. I reviewed it on my blog a few weeks back, and though I did enjoy it it was just too light of a coverage BB Cream to shell out the $$ for. I think the drugstore has great alternatives if not better.
