Over the past year it really does feel like Benefit have pulled themselves into the forefront of my mind – most recently by taking over the space below my office – all very hush hush, giving nothing but the hashtag #Benetease to the public. What cha’ got hiding in there huh? But before that we had the drop of the Big Easy BB Cream. When the Big Easy landed on my desk I was a little uneasy about trying it out, given the countless reviews on finish so matte (even the tube states liquid to power) that dry skinned girls should run a mile at the site of. Despite this I persevered and can safely say that reports were slightly off on this one…
Luckily for me the finish isn’t fully matte, more of a luminous/semi matte finish, possibly due to a lighter formula. It’s a BB cream more than a foundation, but still packs just enough coverage for my everyday liking. Think the Dr Jart BB Cream but with less of the dewy glow. The first time I tried it out I was afraid that it actually had a greasy look to it, but after a few minutes it settles into a lighter coverage version of my most recent base love – the Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage 12-Hour Foundation – which more than explains why I’ve taken a liking to it. It doesn’t sit beautifully over my dryer patches, but it’s not the worst liquid formula I’ve tried – moisturise well ladies.
The TLDR of it? A semi matte finish with a slight luminosity (thumbs up), it won’t work the best with flakey patches of skin (thumbs down), overall a good day time base option which exceeded expectations (thumbs up).
Where’s the thumbs up emoji when you need one?
