Picture this. Your outfit for New Years Eve arrives and before you know it you’re standing on the sea front with no tights on, in your garbs of choice, contemplating how much money you’d have if you had a penny for every goose bump on your body. Thankfully it was a kick ass outfit and the photos that Chloe took are the bomb. I branched out a little in terms of my choices for my outfit last week and it spurred on a train of thought on the style choices I want to make going forward.
WEAR WHITE: At the end of 2014 I realised that, despite having a winter wardrobe that looks partially shared with the grim reaper, white works pretty well on me. Last year my goal was to experiment more with colour, this year I’m going for white. It’s a shade that works well across seasons and compliments any hair colour and skin tone. If that’s not worth investing in I don’t know what is.
FOLLOW YOUR HEART: I spent the last year putting off purchasing a few things that I really wanted, but felt they were too novelty or cute for my style (clean and minimalistic is always where it’s at), but after giving in they end up being my most worn items (see cat bag, ballet flats and white midi skirts). This year I’m going to go with my gut – invest in softer accessories and create a mix of feminine and structured pieces.
COAT CRAVING: I will always be a coat lover, and where as I’ve declared to give up on the coat purchases in previous years, this year the coat coveting will continue. In 2014 I wasted too much time buying shirts that were lost under layers and didn’t have enough ways to style. But a wardrobe full of classic coats and jackets can be so versatile, and can change the look of the entire outfit underneath.
MORE SHOES: For the past three years I’ve been that girl who has ten pairs of black boots. All round toe, all with some form of gold embellishment. Snooooze. I’ve already started branching out in when it comes to shape, finish and style and I can’t wait until summer comes around so I can do it all again.
THAT ONE PURCHASE: I’m a high street girl always (sometimes more on the high end of the high street *ahem* WHISTLES) but this year is the year I splurge on ONE thing. Well, one designer handbag that is. I’ve wanted a Mulberry bag for a very long time now, and over the next 365 days (maybe less if I’m lucky), I’ll be scraping my pennies together to buy one. My Dad thinks I’ve lost my mind, but I’ve worked really hard over the past four years and my opinion, it’s time.
