The Everygirls Guide to Wardrobe Clear Out’s

wardrobe clear out

The "How To" for all the girls out there who hate wardrobe clear out's:

Can anyone think of the words "cleaning out my closet" without doing a terrible impression of Eminem? Na, I don't think so. But my terrible music taste aside, that's what I've been up to lately. Tackling my Everest. Both because my clothing stash might as well be the size of Everest and also because the job was my Everest. I'm not one of these highly organised types and the idea of clearing out my wardrobe, quite frankly makes me want to drop everything and run. I can't be the only one, surely?

If you're raising your hand in solidarity... this blog post is for you, you fellow chaotic, clothes hoarding little cherub.

So let's get one thing straight, you ARE 100% without any shadow of a doubt, going to get past what was originally step one (now step two!) and want to throw the towel in and lie on your bed. Except you won't be able to because most likely your bed will be covered in clothes. SO...

STEP ONE: You're going to want to pre-empt this likelyhood of giving up and counteract: Grab your laptop, put on your favourite movie(s) or playlist and have your phone near you at all times to make an uber easts/deliveroo order. Quite frankly having The Vamps on repeat and the promise of a McDonalds delivered to your door has got me through some of the longest days of 2018 so far so I'm pretty confident in this method.

STEP TWO: Get it all out. Take your clothes out, and if you can, decide whether it's staying as you're taking each item out - also do this whilst putting items back in too. Be RUTHLESS*. It's worth it for the extra hangers you'll have at the end.

STEP THREE: Clean the inside of the wardrobe whilst it's clear. Disorganised we may be, but unhygienic we ain't.

STEP FOUR: Pat yourself on the back and remind yourself that technically cleaning counts as exercise and exercise = obligatory pizza.

STEP FIVE: Decide how you're going to structure your wardrobe and have sections for everything - keep all of those flimsy cami tops hung up and together because we all know otherwise they just get forgotten and never worn and are therefore a total frickin waste of dollar bills.

STEP SIX: Store anything that isn't for the current season you're in (unless you travel a tonne) to ensure you don't get distracted by summer dresses in the middle of November. (brrr. COLD.)

STEP SEVEN: Enjoy your fresh new wardrobe and promise yourself it will stay this way for at least 30 days. Order your take out if you haven't already.

*STEP EIGHT: Make sure those previously mentioned unwanted clothes you've ruthlessly tossed aside aren't wasted. If you CBA to depop or ebay them, charities like British Heart Foundation have collection services which you can book in for with no charge. They'll have your seven bags of unwanted clothes (guilty) off your hands in no time!

After watching your video where you decluttered your wardrobe, I just had to do mine! Being ruthless is definitely key and having a mentality of “I’ve not worn this in six months or more” also helps!

You look stunning, Susie! And placing everything on your bed or somewhere where it’s going to get in your way is a MUST, because then you feel obliged to finish this on the day.
